What's Good to Eat Around Corpus Christi

Of equal importance to the quality of the food is the service. All the places I list have good to great service or they would not be on my list. If a place has bad service once I will try again at some point. If I have bad service again then I do not go back.

• Thai Cottage (5830 Mcardle Dr)..(361) 993-0777:
  Some of the best Thai food I have had. Knowing that spicy is very individual, they tailor the hot and spicy flavor anywhere from a 1 pepper spicy to a 5 pepper spicy. 3 pepper spicy suits me and that is what I ask for. I recommend the Panang for a meal, and the Thai Custard and Sweet Rice for dessert. If you don't like these two, then Thai food is probably not for you.

• Miller Barbeque (2233 Airline Rd)..(361) 993-5534:
  Not to be confused with Bill Millers Barbeque, this is as good as barbeque gets. The barbeque beef is my favorite, but the other meats are good too. I DO recommend though that you ask for "lean" when you get the beef though or you risk the meat being a little chewy. They have three sauces to choose from, and a good selection of veggies. There is free self-serve, soft-serve ice cream after the meal.

• Kiko's (5514 Everhart)..(361) 991-1211:
  Tex-Mex at its best. I have not had better anywhere and I have had a lot. They are family owned and have been in business 37 years if memory serves me right.

• La Playa Mexican Cafe (7118 S Padre Island Dr)..(361) 980-3909:
  While I love Tex-Mex, that is not the mexican food you will get here. This is the taste of Monterrey, Mexico. There are a lot of grilled meats with rich sauces. I have only been here once because someone said how good it was ... and it was delicious. I will definitely go again and again to this place.

• The Bayou Grill (3741 S Alameda)..(361) 854-8626: CLOSED ... Moved to Harlingen
  A very good cajun seafood restaurant. Hot spicy cajun cornbread comes with every full dinner. From personal experience I recommend the Fried Oysters, the Blackened Snapper (I did not know fish could be this good), and the Fried Shrimp Salad. Yummm!

• Snoopy's (13313 S Padre Island Dr)..(361) 949-8815:
  Seafood on Padre Island. If you are on a fat free diet this place is not for you. If you only care that you have great seafood, try this place out. Nearly everything is fried but you can not find fresher seafood and the prices are good.

• Cozy Corner (5117 Weber Road)..(361) 723-2200: CLOSED
  Quiet, hidden away place, with better than average american food. Great fettucini alfredo with shrimp. A little on the pricy side but worth it

• Katz 21 Steaks and Spirits (317 N Mesquite St)..(361) 884-1815:
  Great steaks, and great sides!! Expensive but it is the place to go for those special occasions. It does not have the view of "The Republic of Texas" on the top floor of the Omni hotel, but the food and service is better. Comparable to Fleming's Prime Steak House and Wine Bar (Newport Beach, California) ... which is the best steak house I have been to outside of Hawaii.
