I did not turn against the Republicans because he had done this. It was one man's action. It was not the fault of the whole Republican party. Everything that should happen, happened. He was caught lying. He was impeached. He resigned as President. Someone else took over and he left the office in shame. This is how it should happen ... and this is how it did happen.
In 1998 Bill Clinton was impeached. However, in this case he was involved in a shameful sexual relation with a female intern at the White House. Again though, his crime was lying to a federal grand jury and obstructing justice ... not for being a dishonorable man who used his high office to lure a young intern into his bed. BUT THEN WHAT HAPPENED? Instead of resigning in disgrace, he vowed to serve out the rest of his term. Then his lawyers worked to convince Congress that they should acquit the President (drop the charges). Congress gave way to the pressure, and acquitted the President in February, 1999.
I have not had respect for the Congress of the United States since that day; especially for the Democrats ... who led the charge to acquit the President.
As far as my feelings for President Clinton, I have never had respect for him since the day he was impeached. I have much less respect for him than President Nixon, because Nixon at least resigned because it was the only right thing left to do under the circumstances. It was also the right thing for Clinton to do ... and he chose to not do the right thing ... and the Democratic party fought so hard to keep him in office when he had disgraced the office of the President. The mainstream media backed Clinton on this too. That was the day the main stream media became part of the problem ... and they have been ever since.
Since that day when Clinton was acquited, I have voted for the least bad option for each office ... not the best candidate. In my heart I am a Libertarian, but the Libertarian party has no power to get things done so I have gone with the Republicans. While the Republican party has its own problems, the Democratic party supports the criminal element, the perverse, and the warped, and distains the ethical or religious in our society. They are the worse kinds of hypocrites. They speak about freedom of speech ... but what they really mean is, "freedom of speech if it supports warped values, but not if it supports the main body of our of society which is essentially ethical". While I am not the most religious person around, I do feel that ethics are extremely important and could never support a party that is in its essence unethical.
